About craig
From humble beginnings in country NSW Portland, to reaching the professional highs of a premiership winning player for the Canberra Raiders in 1990. Craig’s career was built off hard work.
Transitioning from playing to coaching at the Raiders before joining the Brisbane Broncos as performance co-ordinator to assistant coach of Premiership winners in 1998 & 2000.
In 2003, Craig was appointed Melbourne Storm Head Coach. ‘Bellachye’ has created a culture that is envied and admired by all codes and fans. It is a system, which helped mould the talents of: Cooper Cronk, Billy Slater and Cameron Smith.
With a winning percentage of 70%, Craig has seen plenty of success and a fair share of disappointment. It is his drive and ability to reinvent, adapt, lead and overcome in the pursuit of success. To, how he led the club and his team out the other side to become 2011 Minor Premiership and go on and win the 2012 Premiership after losing 14 of their best players.
From here, the club continues to go from strength to strength; including lifting The Provan-Summon Trophy in 2017, 2020, 2021 & 2024.
Craig’s leadership continues to flourish in 2021, with Melbourne Storm equalling the longest winning streak in first grade Rugby League history with 19 straight victories; a feat only matched by 1975 Sydney Roosters. History continues to be made, after, also collecting the 2024 Minor Premier’s J.J. Giltinan Shield and Dally M Coach Of The Year for the seventh time. Craig become the fourth coach to reach 600 games at premiership level since 1908.
Melbourne Storm have been one of the most successful NRL team’s over the last two decades. Since 2003, featuring in 21 final series in 22 season, playing in ten grandfinals under the leadership of Craig.
